Well done to Barossa Stud on breeding and producing the Supreme Champion Foal at the IPS 4th Annual Foal Show. Barossa Ranger is out of Barossa Stud's homebred mare Barossa Royal Irish by Mynach Arion.

Fourth Annual Foal Show, 6th November 2011

By Isobel Reynolds.

The fourth annual IPS foal show, held in Roscrea on a sunny but frosty Sunday morning, was well attended with quality stock from around the country.

Paula Cullen’s attractive bay January colt, Paulank Little Christmas, won the Welsh section A class, the first and largest class of the day with 12 entries and he also got the nod in the potential lead rein pony class before standing champion pure bred Welsh pony ahead of the section B winner Droum Leap Obama.

Sisters Claire Scott and Sarah Rymer with their eye-catching roan filly, Goldengrove Special Edition, won a trio of red ribbons in the Welsh Part bred to exceed 133cms, the larger of the Show pony sections and the pure/part bred Arab class.   This pony is by Cusop Darcy, the stallion is owned by Tim Hurley, who on the day had the winner in the Connemara class with Gorthtaneinden Taundey who is by his other stallion, Robe Thunder.   UK judge Elizabeth Morgan of Greenacres Stud near Birmingham, was very disappointed with the number of Connemara ponies on the day, “Irelands wonderful native breed”.   Mrs Morgan was however very pleased with the quality of ponies presented for judging and thought that Paulank Little Christmas may one day compete in the Working Hunter Lead Rein class at the Horse of the Year Show, new owner Michael Grace ought to know about HOYS potential having previously bred a champion show hunter pony at the prestigious UK show. Mrs Morgan was “delighted with the hospitality” she received whilst in Ireland, “definitely deserve your reputation”!

Rosie Fitzgerald won the potential show hunter pony classes not to exceed 133cms with Brandon Zimbabwe.   The bay colt, Araglen Louis Quatorze took the red in the potential hunter pony to make up to 153cms.   Barossa Ranger was unbeaten on his last outing as a foal, the chestnut Mynach Arion colt won the Part bred Welsh pony and the Show pony not to exceed 128cms at maturity before standing Champion Foal of the show for his delighted owners.
