Working Hunter Pony Teams

 

The IPS Hunter Pony Committee under the chairmanship of Pat Geoghegan has appointed a selection committee that will have the sole responsibility of team selection, training and appointment of team chef d’Equipe/s. This committee will be working towards the next WHP European Team Championships to be hosted by Ireland. The first step for the new selectors will be the Inter-Country WHP team event at the BSPS Summer Championships 2008. All potential team ponies and riders will be expected to take part in training clinics, as requested by and organised by the selectors.

The Inter – Country Team event will take place at the

B.S.P.S. Summer Championship Show, Arena UK, Grantham.

20th – 23rd August 2008

 

I.P.S. Members interested in being considered for Team Selection are requested to submit Pony Name, Pony Height and Rider Name no later than Friday 16th May 2008. The Inter-Country Team Event will involve all riders to compete in Working Hunter only. Nominated ponies must be capable of completing the open WHP courses at Tattersalls & Rathbawn

 

Notes:

a)       A long list of potential team candidates will be published by the end of May 2008 following the completion of the early season shows. This list may be added to or reduced before the shortlist is announced.

b)       A short list of potential team candidates will be available on week commencing 14th July 2008.

c)       All potential team ponies will be expected to take part in team training as requested.

d)       All short listed ponies will be expected to compete at Tattersalls, (20th July), & Rathbawn, (27th July)

e)       All potential team members should attempt to compete at some or all the following shows:

 

 

Saturday 17th May 2008     IPS Wicklow Area Show – Boswell Equestrian, Ashford, Co. Wicklow.

Saturday 31st May 2008      Western Area Show – Dartfield, Loughrea, Co. Galway.

Monday 2nd June 2008        IPS Whit Show – Boswell Equestrian, Ashford, Co. Wicklow.

Saturday 21st June 2008     IPS Limerick/Clare Area Show – Rockfield, Crecora, Co. Limerick.

Sunday 22nd June 2008      St. Lukes Charity Show – Marguerite Lodge, Kilteel, Naas, Co. Kildare.

Saturday 28th June 2008     Charleville Show – Charleville, Co. Cork.

Sunday 29th June 2008        IPS Tipperary Area show – Ballylanigan House, Mullinahone, Co. Tipperary.

Wednesday 2nd July 2008   Patricia Hanson Show – Tattersalls, Ratoath, Co. Meath. (Robinson Gold Cup Show)

Sunday 13th July 2008        Wicklow Area Summer Show – Newcastle, Co. Wicklow.

Format for Area Training and Bursary Awards.

Area Training: (9 IPS Areas)

    • 6 Categories Under 12 (on 1st January 2008) – Flat ( No Lead Rein Ponies)
    • Over12 and under 17 (on 1st January 2008) – Flat ( No Lead Rein Ponies)
    • Over 17 and under 25 (on 1st January 2008) – Flat
    • Under 12 (on 1st January 2008) – WHP
    • Over12 and under 17 (on 1st January 2008) – WHP
    • Over 17 and under 25 (on 1st January 2008) – WHP

Rules: Not suitable for Green or Novice Ponies

  1. Programme for all or some of the categories as listed above.
  2. Flat and WHP training classes cannot be combined.
  3. A full list of participants in each category to be sent to the IPS office when training completed no later than Wednesday 7th May 2008.
  4. A full account of the income/costs of the Area training to be sent to the IPS office, when training completed no later than Wednesday 7th May 2008.
  5. Trainer / Instructor should preferably be from outside the area so that the He / She would not have a prior knowledge of any participating riders.
  6. Trainer/Instructor should, where possible, be different from the 2007 training.
  7. Each category to receive a minimum 4 hours training.
  8. The training to be completed no later than 30th April 2008.
  9. Prior to commencement of training, the instructor is to be advised that 1 rider from each of the 6 categories is to be selected for the semi-finals of the Red & Green Challenge.
  10. Where 6 or more riders take part in a category, 2 riders to qualify for the semi-finals.
  11. A copy of the marking/assessment sheets used for the selection of riders to be forwarded to the IPS office no later than Wednesday 7th May 2008.
  12. Dress Code : Neat and tidy riding wear. Ponies not to be plaited.
  13. The Area training to be open to NON MEMBERS so long as they pay the daily membership.
  14. Riders that qualify for the bursary semi-finals must become or be fully paid up members of the Irish Pony Society.
